Basic ADSL router
If you have opted to install your own router on your Opal ADSL Line, then listed below are the details that you will need.
Layer 2 Supported Protocols
PPP
Layer 3 Supported Protocols
IP
Almost all routers should be able to automatically determine the other parameters used by your ADSL service but they are listed below for completeness:
- VPI 0
- VCI 35 or 38
- PPPoA (PPP over ATM though PPPoLLC may also work)
- VC-MUX as the multiplexing method
The link between your router and Opal is dynamically addressed with the value being downloaded by Opal using PPP. If you use a static address on your WAN interface and the router implements PPP according to the standards, it will overwrite the static address and use the dynamic value passed by Opal.
We will send you a letter detailing your address space assignment for the LAN port if you have been assigned globally routed address space.
We use CHAP and one way authentication (we will authenticate your inbound connection).
The speed of the line is set by the carrier provided NTU.
We will not send or accept dynamic routing information from you.
